The Wyandotte Thread

I just ordered some Silver Laced Wyandotte chicks. Really looking forward to adding them to my small flock! They are so pretty and I've heard great things about them!

I am fond of Wyandottes. Been around them for better than 30 years. They can be quite bossy and hard on other birds. The one Silver Laced I have left is the head honcho since my rooster passed on. She even has small spurs to boot. Yes, it is a hen.

How does one correctly pronounce Wyandotte? I've heard so many variations I'd like to get it right.

There's Why-ann-dot, Win-dotty, Win-dot, Whan-dot and my favorite - Wine-dot. so which is correct

I pronounce it with my distinct Texas drawl I am sure but its how I have said it. Whine-dot

How does everyone document their breedings? Just write down bird, leg band # and....? Still very new at this.
i use excel to keep track of everything,

i have one sheet called my 'incubation diary' which tracks # eggs set, breed, source (shipped, breeding pens, etc), # fertile, # to lockdown, # to hatch, any comments or losses within a few days of hatch.

another one has record of all birds, including band style, color, number, etc, bird sex, color, breed and parentage if known. parentage, if not from a single pair, is recorded by pen ID, which lists which individual birds are in the pen at that time.

i use separate sheets on an individual file, so everything's organized nicely. i'm a bit ocd wen it comes to record keeping like that. the incubation log has had the advantage that my hatch rates have improved because of the records i've kept and what i've done that yeilded better results.

Thank you.

How does one go about breeding away from a bunny tail? Get better females with nice tails?

Ya I posted my tails a few pica back and what is my hen and rood tails it is really confusing me. Ya my roosteris a definite pullet breeder and I am getting a rooroo breeder soon. Is there any difference in hens for pullet breeding and for too breeding
