The Wyandotte Thread

Okay I just got my two black Wyandotte bantams one is a couple months old the other is POL. The POL pullet is quite aggressive... She puffs up and tries to bite me when I go to pet her. But it seems fear based as afterwards she cowars and if I lift my hand she ducks like I'm going to hit her. How can I resolve this?

Finally got some updated photos of my wyandottes! :)
I'm planning on keeping the girl on the left and the two in the top right. The girl on the right does not have the preferred feather shape on some parts of her body but her other positive features are to good to pass over.

My new flock that I recently purchased from RattlesnakeRidgeWV.

Pullets I am planning on keeping ( top right same as photo #1). Pullet on the bottom has very good feather shape.

Pullet #2 tail. (pullet on bottom in 3rd picture)

Another picture of the first pullet pictured.

Pullet #3 that I am keeping. Also has very nice feather shape. Hoping to breed for a bit thicker lacing.

More pictures of the new flock.

More new flock pictures.

New flocks coop and pen.

Picture of pullet #3

My original SL wyandotte flock dust bathing. The cockerel on the right is My rooster, Copernicus, son. He actually moved himself into the pen with his dad with no issues! So far good coloring on him but need to wait some more. His tail is a bit big but hopefully he will grow into it.

here is my silver penciled wyandottes and buff columbian in LF not bantam
I really like your silver pencilled birds. How long have you been working on them? Where did you get your breeding stock? We also have SP but only in bantam at this time. Did I read correctly that you also have bantams?

Dracoe19, Wow! Excellent SLWs! I am soo jealous! I can see you take a lot of pride in keeping a good line of SLWs...good work. Thank you for sharing the pics.

Can I inquire about chick development here? These are HATCHERY CHICKS. I purchased them 2-1/2 weeks ago. I am an old Black Bantam Cochin guy that has hatched & raised 100s of chicks from them. They were for showing. I know that with them Cockerels tend to develop combs much earlier then pullets & that a comb that develop & color early are a definite sign of a Cockerel. Do Wyandotte chick exhibit the same differences between cockerels & pullets? Is it reasonable top assume that a bird who's come starts growing & starts getting red (pink in this case0 are probably Cockerels?

cochins tend to mature faster, but yes, if they have any wattle/comb development turning pink before 3 months old, chances are it's a roo.

Thanks, thee were supposed to be Pullets. Obviously the person sexing the chicks needs a re-fresher. Either that or he forgot which chicks he was throwing into which bin. 75% cockerels is pretty poor

My year-old SLW's tail is too big. Is it possible that he will grow into it a little better? Also, he didn't molt last fall so is it possible that the next time he molts they won't grow as long?
