that's interesting, I've never seen a barred Columbian... a typical barred bird is the barring gene on an extended black base with the silver gene added... cuckoo is the same. the difference between is whether they feather fast or slow...barred chickens have columbian (co) and sex-linkedv late feathing (k) cuckoo do not have columbian in them. that is the differnce the genetic backgrounds are different not two of the same birds. put a barred agaist a cuckoo then you well see but as i said nice bird.

The second paragraph includes history on the Columbian Wyandotte...comes from a breeding between a White Wyandotte and a Barred Plymouth Rock.
Does this mean that anything cross bred to a wyandotte is still classed as a wyandotte? I thought it would just be barnyard mix.Yes there was a mishap breeding with the amature who bought some Whites from Mr Briggs. A BR cock bred 1 of the White hens and two pullets were hatched. Mr Briggs bought the two pullet offspring and bred them back to a White cock he owned.
Quote: if it meets the Wyandotte standards of perfection, then it would be a Wyandotte... it would take multiple generations of breeding back to good quality Wyandottes to get the body type required, IMO.
so what you have are barnyard mixes.
what she was referring to was the origin of the Columbian Wyandotte I believe...
and it's not barred that hides the other color varieties, it's white that does.

Quote: well, there's a very fine line between BQ and SQ... you want to breed for the standard, which means SQ...
