that's interesting, I've never seen a barred Columbian... a typical barred bird is the barring gene on an extended black base with the silver gene added... cuckoo is the same. the difference between is whether they feather fast or slow...

Yes there was a mishap breeding with the amature who bought some Whites from Mr Briggs. A BR cock bred 1 of the White hens and two pullets were hatched. Mr Briggs bought the two pullet offspring and bred them back to a White cock he owned.
Does this mean that anything cross bred to a wyandotte is still classed as a wyandotte? I thought it would just be barnyard mix.
I have been playing with a chocolate wyandotte rooster with a ginger ranger hen (we call them warrens). If I breed the chicks back to another chocolate wyandotte cockerel is the offspring wyandotte or barnyard?

Quote: if it meets the Wyandotte standards of perfection, then it would be a Wyandotte... it would take multiple generations of breeding back to good quality Wyandottes to get the body type required, IMO.
so what you have are barnyard mixes.

what she was referring to was the origin of the Columbian Wyandotte I believe...

and it's not barred that hides the other color varieties, it's white that does.
