The Wyandotte Thread

Quote: Thanks.... ;-) Yes Tina is still broody and when she does get out she's low girl on the totem pole which doesn't help. The BLRB doesn't bother her toooo much but when food's around the SL pecks at her. Not viciously but it doesn't take much to run her off.

I lost my only choc pullet. I was moving birds yesterday and found a choc roo a black roo (might be split) a black pullet and 2 choc pullets.

I also found a choc orps roo maybe I can get both going next year.

lost? or found?  i'm confused. you lost one but found two?

sorry. the choc pullet I had thatbwas laying died. I think the roo was to rough on her. I FOUND. some little pullet choc chicks growing out.

I just want to clarify the found part. I few months ago I was swimming in chicks so I really still don't know what I have growing out so when I find something like choc it is a good find. :)

Here's a pic of my day old blrw.

My girls have been brooding like crazy lately and I think we've got about 30 chicks right now. Everyone's in together but luckily the roosters keep to their own size hens so we got a few Blue/Black Wyandottes and a few gorgeous EE/Wyandotte chicks along with a lot of bantam cochins.

I'm super excited to see how the Wyandotte babies grow since they're from the roo I hatched from PeakyBeaky's eggs. They're HUGE too! I will probably keep the Wyandotte mixed chicks too, they should be good layers and end up looking more like 'dottes but with beards since they're all 3/4+ Wyandotte now.

Silly girl. Pecking order can sure seem brutal at times....
A SP batam disappeared for a month. I figured she got broody somewhere and a coyote got her...Cleaning up brush in one of the pens, presto there she was. I picked her up and she had 14!! eggs under her and tucked in her wings. The pen she somehow got in was with a BLR and some Brahmas. The BLR had stopped laying, so I thought...The whole time the BLR had been contributing to the broody SP. LOL I think she would have set until she died. BTW every egg was infertile, no roosters in with any of them.

Sorry to hear about your choc pullet. Presto, you are back in business with the chocs. That happened to me to this year. I found a bunch of partridge pullets in a grow out pen. So tickled, just like Christmas.
