The Wyandotte Thread

I am considering purchasing some White Wyandottes and I already have some black australorps So I would like to add some color to my flock. Can you cross different colors but still get showable birds?

Fertility in any of my breeds will drop when the rooster goes thru a moult...this includes the LF Wyandotte and Cochin. Once moult I'd near completion, fertility returns to normal.

On selected breedings, I will breed daughters to sire and sons to mother and aunts.
On selected breedings I will breed offspring from the same pen. These offspring would be 1/2 brothers and sisters and full siblings. The offspring in my breed pens are toe punched for better tracking. Only selected offspring would be bred this way and culling is severe....looking for specific traits.

nope.

especially when working with white and black. both colors are able to hide a multitude of other mutations, and crossing the two you would have any chance of getting a dozen other varieties, none of which would be showable. pretty maybe, but useless except as a table or egg bird.
