The Wyandotte Thread

Over the past few years several members have been asking about Tollbunt Wyandottes. Following the recipe given by the Dutch geneticist Sigrid van Dort http://www.chickencolours.com/pagina11.html I started the project to create Tollbunt Wyandotte in 2010, beginning with red mille fleur X black laced red Wyandottes. Now, 3 years later, I’m happy to show some photo’s of one of my Tollbunt Wyandotte cockerels (large fowl, hatched 2/16/2013).

I'm hoping that someone can tell me how to treat this. This afternoon we noticed one of our hens had an eye swollen shut. The eye rim is all enflamed and the eye is runny. I'm not sure what happened to her. We've separated her. How would we treat this?

Anyone near Rhode Island want a GLW cockeral? He is not breeder stock, was a sexing error from MPC. I still think he's handsome....he's 1 year old, not too aggressive but not overly docile either...takes good care of his hens but he is a little too much for just 3 hens. I want to get rid of him to get a couple more pullets.

I'm no expert, but by chance do you have any terimicine (sp) antibiotic ointment? I got mine from the vet for kittens with eye infections. I used it on a rooster who got into a fight and had a eye swollen shut last week and he is doing good after one treatment. I took a warm wash cloth and held it to the eye until I could get him to open it and then put some of the ointment on my finger and put it in his eye. He still looks a mess, but the eye is good. Another option is making a foam out of Johnsons Baby Shampoo and washing the eye area.

First: Get them away from everybody else. DO NOT put them in the house. I had some in the house for 2 weeks and never got better. They really need to be outside. When it was cold at night i would put them in the shed. I used a very big dog metal carrier. Put a stick so they can roost on. Enough room for food and water.

Secondly: Get Tylan 50. Do not give the recommended dose of 1/2 cc shot for 3 days. You will be wasting your time. Give them 1cc just under the skin of the breast. Make sure no blood is coming into the needle.

Thirdly: Get some VetRx. Put a good drop in each nostril. Then rub it in,. So they breathe it in. Then put 3 drops down there throat. In the water bowl put 5 drops in it. Do this part every day.

In 2-3 days she will be back scratching and moving around. After about the third or fourth day she will be able to go back with the rest. If I could post a vid here I would. Of the ones I saved. This will work!!!
