The Wyandotte Thread

A week after a course of antibiotics you may want to add kefir or yogurt to the food or water for a few days to help rebuild healthy bacteria in the gut - the void/lack of "beneficials" will be filled otherwise with "randoms" not always so beneficial bacteria instead.

Update:

He is eatting and drinking. We had him in our sunroom, so he could walk around a little. Only a few larger maggots were found-lots of little ones. So we re-washed him, cleaned and probed the wound with q-tips and smeared triple antibiotic ointment all over it. Have him under a heat lamp now. He is much more lively tonight.

He is beautiful. And I So :fl hope he pulls through with flying colors.
The sugar advice I've heard greatly speeds healing.
Good Luck and Best Wishes for this handsome guy.

I collected a bunch of feathers from two of my SLW's today for my future project.

The first picture is feathers from one of my first hens which is a hatchery girl. What I find most interesting is her back feathers show signs of penciling not just random mossy or dirty feathers. Over all her feathers are just nice to look at and quite far from the SOP.

The second is from a pullet I hatched last year. Over all her feathers a MUCH better then my big old hatchery hens feathers. Her feathers aren't perfect but are nice. I still need to look at the preferred proper neck feather coloration.

Hi everyone,
I'm planning on taking my black bantam Wyandotte male to his second show (county fair) in about 11 days. His first show went great. He was reserve Champ. RCCL and I was highly praised for his condition. Now, I'm not sure what happened. His tail feathers are a mess. I've done nothing different then what I have before. I've checked for mites, and didn't see any, but dusted him anyways and stripped the coop. The front of the coop is wire, could he be getting them caught up on that? I was hoping to do just as we'll at county fair as I did at last show, but now I'm not so sure... Is there anything I can do to improve his condition? I will go out tonight and take pictures of him and his condition now.
Ok, here are pictures of him with his tail. I'm debating if I should take him to fair or not. I've done nothing different than what I did before. I'm thinking he may be moulting. He has no mites/lice, I checked him and dusted him as a precaution last night.

Here he is before:

Update on Harry the white dott:

Harry is still with us-so he's doing better. He went outside today(in a big Saint Bernard cage) so he could get some fresh air and grass. He's been eatting fine-that boy loves yogurt! He'll be inside until that butt heals up-so a long time I'm guessing. He's just on antibiotic water now, no more shots. So, a day at a time. But I'm glad he's still here with us.
