Here is Puzzle my silver laced wyandotte one day while I was gone she was snatched away by either a fox or hawk.


Puzzle is in the back behind Maple my EE.

I am sorry to not be able to comment on the 'bunny-tail' question, as I am not as educated as some on this matter. I would like to say though I love the feather pattern on your bird! The contrast of black & white-silver is very appealing to me. Is this a what would be called a 'penciled' pattern or a different colored partridge? Please forgive my ignorance on the subject, I am still a chicken-student.

you got the variety correct "Silver Penciled", these pullets where hatched by Duane Urch in Minnesota on April 8

my question is about bunny tails and if these pullets tails will change with age? Do these pullets have tail problems? cull now or wait?

John, Thanks for taking the time to take pictures..I would not be worried about bunny tails. Give these birds 12 more weeks and see if you can get some fronts on them. They are baby's and I like them. They need cleaner color but that is not important at this time. Work for size for the girls. Get that body filled out and take a look later. If your plan is to show or breed, you will need to get a clean adult male. I like some of the patterns. Get them looking like the bird below. (Not my bird)They need some dolly!!

No bunny tails that I can see. Bunny tail is somewhat of a phantom in my opinion. It is rarely seen outside of a few Wyandotte bantam breeds but so many people spend time worrying about it. They are some nice looking pullets though, give them some time and they will get a whole lot better. To me #3 and #4 may turn out to be your best looking birds, just depends on how much their tails start to curve up as they grow. If they stay flat and straight then probably not so much, as that is Rock type not Wyandotte type.

Nice pattern on your SP's! The only one I wouldn't use at this point is the one in the third picture-the rest WILL change as they grow. #1 may end up as a bunny tail, but the other 2 look nice.

I'm thinking the bird in photo three is a cockerel based on th points on the tail feathers. At only four months, hang onto all of them. They have a lot of growing to do.

better pics will just define what I've already mentioned. dark legs, pea comb and ear muffs... he's still an easter egger, a Wyandotte has NONE of those traits... some other breeds might but none that come to mind.

they are all pullets i raise SPW you have some great birds and you do need to make sure they have yellow legs alot have some black in legs not good here are mine.

I would say all four are male line females. Pullets from a female line will be much brighter in terms of the white in their ground color.

Does anybody know if this bird always holds its wing like that?

It does look a bit off in that section, and makes the tail look weird at the edge too. The indent on the side is probably where the bird normally holds the wing.(Or maybe someone photo shopped something in that area that was not right and it blurred the side. Who knows for sure.
