The Wyandotte Thread

I thought I had found some dottes... Craigslist guy had a quad for sale. Pics attached were beautiful so I went to get them. They were nothing like the pics and weren't even dottes! They were blue cochins and one looked like an Australorp! So sad

I've been looking at pics on Kijiji & have come to the conclusion that if the pictures are too beautiful, they're probably someone elses. Otherwise, if they are beautiful, you can be sure the birds won't be cheap. If they are, suspect SOMETHING is off about the bird(s) - whether looks, temperament, or health..

A good question to ask the seller is: "Can you take a picture of the birds today for me?" - this way you've put them on the spot. They either have to look all over the net to find a similar picture (which you can reverse-search & date) or you get a picture of what they really look like.

On the other hand, I've been told that my pics look too professional and they scare people off. One bloke thought I was taking the pics off google, til he came and had a look for himself. I don't trust pics of birds at shows , with ribbons on cages. Anyone can take those pics.

Well I thought I was being smart bcoz I asked for recent pics and he got my e-mail and sent me a bunch.... Chicks, hens, roos all of them. Even sent pics of the "breeding pens" etc. The price wasn't great but wasn't bad either for 8 hens, four roos. He said he had decided to concentrate on his bantams and didn't have room for the lf anymore. Thought we were getting a good deal and nice birds. :(

Don't feel too bad, we've all been " stiffed " somewhere along the way

Juanita, our SL, had a bad case of poopy butt. Guess her butt is just too fluffy. So I brought her in to clean her up. The problem was worse than I though so I broke out the scissors and whittled away. Tried to be conservative but when I got done with her, between her feathers being wet back there and my whittling, she had a baboons butt!

Thankfully when it dried she fluffed back out and today has lost most of the monkey look.

Wish I would have got a pic of her baboon butt but I was kinda horrified.
