The Wyandotte Thread

yeah my wyandottes are a bit pushy and they tend to like to bite kind of hard at times ..altho i pick them up as much as possible ..my wellies tend to stay away from me ..and if i reach for them they take off running..when ever the wyandottes bite tho i pick them up and stick them under my arm for a couple minutes..they love to have their breast and back petted..but while i am giving attention to one there are a bunch more pecking at me ..i learn that as a man with hairy legs not to wear shorts into the coop ..lol..they must see the hair as feathers or food or they just no how to torment me ..

Don't wear sandals and go anywhere near them if your toes are painted either! Even if you are holding their favorite treat your toes will get pecked at!

I'm a first time Wyandotte owner. I picked out a few chicks a couple of months ago.
Unfortunately I have all roosters and only 1 pullet, LOL.
Here's some pics of my Blue laced red & Silver laced cockerels at 10 weeks old.

I would like to keep one of each, working on getting more pullets.

Where did they come from? A hatchery?

No, They came from local breeders.
I tried feather sexing, I failed ....

I wont try that again. I just picked up a couple sexed pullets from Ideal hachery.
Should of did that to start with.

You can't feather sex birds that aren't bred to be feather sexed.

Those don't look like good quality birds, and you won't get good quality birds from a hatchery either. Are you wanting to breed or just to have some pretty pullets?

these are my wyandottes at just 7 weeks old as of monday..they are filling in pretty nice i think ..some are lagging but i think in time they too will get some nice columbian coloring..
its their first day in the big pen..they been spending the days in the tractor ..took acouple hrs to fetch them and my wellies out of it so i desided to just put the 4 big birds in it till i get another door cut into it ..oh and a better method of catching them and taking them out of the tractor ..lol

Hi everyone. Probably a silly question but new to this. I have heard Wyandotte Roos can be aggressive, has anyone any experiences that would verify or scrap this theory.
