The Wyandotte Thread

I also love the partridge and hope someone is selling eggs for them in the spring.

Both of those bantam varieties are very pretty and usually very good wyandotte types but neither of them are rare I would say. The solid black are gorgeous and the partridge coloring is striking, pick which one you like and go with it.
And Katy, Silver Laced bantams are gorgeous too. First wyandotte bantams I ever got were SL close to 30 years ago.

I got them for my granddaughters since they love Grandma's large fowl ones. They call them the striped chickens. I had to look for a while before I found any, but I'm falling for those little buggers too.

No bantams here. But I do have an order in with Pauls Poultry including 9 slw chicks that I'm trying to get someone in MN to go in on with me. No luck yet. Anyone in MN? I just don't want to take on another breed right now. I spose if noone takes them they can just be in my laying flock and I can just look at them and say 'Ooooh aren't they pretty!' Too bad for me!

Re the medicated starter: I've never used the medicated and never had sick chicks or sick birds. I guess I'm a believer in the saying If it ain't broke don't fix it! Also with all the problems of resistant strains of bacteria showing up I just feel I don't want to possibly help the resistant strains along. Just what works for me.

The "medicene" in chick starter isn't an antibiotic like penicillin. It's a preventative against coccidiosis. It allows the chicks to gain immunity/tolerance against it until their systems can handle it on their own.

I'm getting some chicks from Jesse too.

I love black chickens, so I know I'd love the black Wyandottes. But I think the partridge might be more eye-catching. That's my dilemma.

Get both....they're small they don't take up much room!
