We are getting a pair this weekend from Colby.....we picked them up for her from Duane Urch this past fall. We won't have any chicks this spring because we need to build our flock, but should have some started birds in the fall. these are the only pictures i have of them.

Thank you! I bought my chicks from there last year and I LOVE them! I just forgot how I found the website. I only had a few BLUE as an addition to the order and ended up with three blues...two dark and one really pretty light blue that I LOVE!!! I will definatly be getting more this Spring.

When it comes to breeding there is no substitute numbers, although a rock cross does not hurt. We had to bring in a stinger of fresh bloodline to our flock and where fortunate enough to find a couple of good penciled rock pullets. I felt this was a quicker, easier and less expensive way rather than crossing to a partridge. Crossing with the partridge would leave a lot of undesirable golden color in the wing bows of the males for generations to come. With the cross we raised well over 125 chicks and culled down to half dozen of the cross and are mating them back to “pure” Wyandotte. Fertility, eggs, vigor, hatchability chick health is way up. As a matter of fact the crosses look more like Wyandottes than the “pure” line does and we had the same success with our partridge lines by bringing in rocks and a Chanteclare cross. Thanks to a good old single comb bird. To bring up that discussion again I will not offer my opinion or results at this time but rather would encourage you to seek out the knowledge of a Wyandotte breeder who has been raising exhibition stock for twenty years or more rather than someone who has been in it for five or six years. I do know one thing for sure is that a line can get to the point of being too inbred to where fertility is affected. With limited lines available sometimes a single combed breed is all that is available.

They are very pretty birds and I am very excited to find some real GLWS and start working with them. Some of the GLWs that are around are from Black laced BLRWs. I have plenty of those already in the backyard.

Is it OK to use your black laced reds in your gold laced breeding program? What sort of problems might arise from doing this?

Too much red in the Gold Laced offspring.

Black Laced Red has mahogany in it to create the red, something you really don't want in Gold Laced birds.

Oh yes...they know. At first they wanted one of every color. They still want a columbian at some point, but it seems hard to find them.
