Hi Kelly have you hatched anything yet?
There are 2 Blue Wyandotte's laying now so want be to long for you now. Then you will have more!

Hi, Soarin'!!!!!!!!! Yes, I've done one hatch (11 of 13 hatched!)........the incubator is perfect!!!! Whenever it's convenient - even late spring - my bator is ready!!! The birds coming from Foley's are day-old chicks (they don't sell hatching eggs)....I'm going to have a whole MESS of nice Wyandottes!!!

Hey, guys! Soarin' sold me a wonderful Brinsea &&&&&&&&&&&&& some of her Blue Wyandottes for later this spring!!!!

Wow great hatch! Glad you like it. I have been getting good hatches with my new bator too. I now have 13+ dozen in there now for the local breeder swap/sale this spring.
Just let me know when you want the Blue Wyandotte eggs. cangratulations on getting the SLW's!

Hey!!! I feel like the kid on the playground. The one playing all alone....even after several attempts to join in the fun and games in this thread!!!.

I'm even getting really cool SLW and I don't even get a nod of acknowledgement.

It's been a long while since I've felt like a kid on a playground

Thanks for making me feel like a kid again, at least!

Anyway - I'm not giving up! I want to learn! I want to play!!!!

Hi Kelly G!

Although I have raised chickens for a looooong time, I have only been fussing with the Standards of Perfection for 3 or 4 years. I have always loved Columbian marked breeds, but I have had lousy luck with them.... bad hatches, DOA chick shipments.

Last year I saw that Ideal had bantam Columbian Wyandottes so I ordered them. As they grew I could see that they were not marked very well (check out the "Columbian" rooster in my avatar and you will see what I mean), but too late... I am hooked. These little chickens come running the moment I step outside, follow me everywhere and are an absolute delight to watch. They have so much character and personality.

I found a breeder about 80 miles away who raises and shows (successfully!) bantams. I now have 36 bantam wyandotte eggs- partridge, black and golden laced- and 12 rose comb RIR bantam eggs in the incubator. After these hatch I am going back for Columbian, blue, silver laced, blr and buff wyandotte and bantam buff orp eggs.

I only have Silver Penciled in the large fowl, but I have had slw and glw in the past. I also have high quality bantam cochins, buff brahmas, and ameraucanas... but,

those little hatchery ( I know, that's a baaaad word) wyandotte bantams are my favorites.

So, can I play, too?

i'll even show you my new SLWs!!

after I take pics, tomorrow, of course.

Here's one of my hatchery "Columbians":

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!! Much better! I have been combing these pages looking for good reading material on the breed standard and other important info - and looking for a "society to join".

I've had two SLW for three years (among other breeds), but they are from Ideal....and for the last year I've been entertaining the idea of sinking some real money to get some nice birds....ready to tak the plunge now!

I'm sooooo excited!!!! I ordered a dozen: 6 will be from one pen and 6 will be from her second pen....so I'll be able to start a (very) small breeding project.

Thanks, again, for playing - do you want to play Four-Square?!!!

you can get the APA standard or you can come back here and ask questions, but the best learning tool for us was to take our birds to a big show and see how they do against some of the best breeders. They also don't mind questions....just walk up to them and say...."Wow, that is a nice SLW".... then go from there.

Okay Wyandotte breeders: Tell me what you think of these and don't be shy. I can take it....

It's a balmy 5 degrees here and everybody looks a little extra poofy.

Uploading pictures here is giving me fits!! I keep getting error messages saying I have the wrong file when I haven't changed anything.
Any suggestions for me? Keep it simple as I am not computer savy.

If they were to be unpatterned Partridge they would be Black Breasted Red, would they not? At least that is what they would seem like to me, I may be totally wrong though.

BBR is red duckwing, partridge is not the same, male partridge look very similar to duckwing males but the females lack the salmon breast. partridge with the addition of Pg is patterned partridge. Could you post pictures of your Partridge Wyandottes?

I think that you could say that Partridge without pattern is brown (see dark brown leghorns, brown cochins, etc.). All Partridge carry the brown gene and the pattern gene. When you take the Pattern gene away, you are left with brown only. I sometimes wonder if some of my cochin hens are heterozygous for the pattern gene because they show very little penciling over the back, but plenty in the breast. See pic:

I'll give you the good points and the bad, in my opinion
smile.png

Good: lacing seems to be pretty good
nice leg color on the hen
comb points pretty decent

Bad: Can't tell hardly anything about type with this pic
Male has large wattles
Is his left foot crooked? or just standing like that?

One thing you might be able to do is use cardboard of something like it to keep the draft from coming up through the wire.

Wipe that smug look off your face! It's just a matter of time before you catch it, too.

.....and when you do, we are going to rub it in, big time!!

My doctor says he can give me something to keep it under control

I have hatchery quality but my 3 SLW & 1 GLW don't seem to be as loud as my 5 Cuckoo Marans or my 2 EE's or my Road Island Red's. My EE's just started laying, late layers. My Cuckoo's & RIR's are really noisey. This morning there were 3-4 saying they laid an egg. Their pen is close to the neighbors house so I'm on edge about that, I guess I better start asking if they want some eggs

. I wasn't expecting hen's to be so noisy.
