The Wyandotte Thread

that's great! Maybe I'll get to meet you at crossroads. I got a trio of giants from vaughn's at shawnee. If they would start laying I could try to.set some. Looks like I won't have any of them to show until next year.

Everyone must be busy getting all their chickies n coops ready for spring as it has been really quite on this thread.

Well, guess I will just torment you all with my best looking boy. Here is Lester in the front; behind him is Rubert.

Yeah he has faults but is still better then the faults the other 4 have.
The girls are getting pinker in their combs n wattles so hopefully next month they will start laying. Saphire has already given the new nest boxes a serious inspection. I think she has already called dibbs on the one she likes the most.

Thanks

These guys I got from Privett Hatchery. I have an order for some chicks with a breeder just waiting to find out when they will be ready.
I want to get my Wyandotte flock up to SQ as the breeders have some really beautiful birds.

Hi I am new to chickens but we love them. A question for those of you who are experienced with the Wyandottes. Are they more aggressive and prone to picking than other breeds? We have 6 pullets that will be a year old in April. One GLW, 2 Rocks, 1 RIR, 1 EE and 1 Orp. The Wyandotte has been picking the other girls pretty badly. The EE has a bald back, the RIR picked back and neck and the barred rock picked on her back and around her vent. Currently the Wyandotte is separated from the others by fencing (she can see them but not get to them) and the feathers are coming back. The other girls seem to coexist OK but the W is a bully! Is this just "her" personality or is this a bad mix of breeds? Thank you we are learning. The W is gorgeous and healthy but I might need to rehome her.

I know now that the rooster has too much gold on his hackles but boy he was a looker.
I got these BLRs from Valentine Hatchery.. a small operation that sold primarily Marans
(I got a BEAUTIFUL Blue Birchen Marans rooster from him..got pictures of him too) but I'm
pretty sure he retired from raising chickens.
Also! I'm sorry if these don't like, come in or they're too big.. it's my first uploads to BYC..
Tell me what you guys think!

Hi Everyone,

I am so new to raising chickens that I don't have any ...LOL! We are building the coop now. I have several questions if anyone could or would answer I would be very appreciative! First the coop I am building is 7 X 6 with a surrounding fenced run of 12' X 24'. Would these sizes be enough for 12 chickens? I have studied several different breeds but may just start with Rhode Island Reds...guess everyone just says RIR. Which brings me to another question. I read through the posts on here and can't figure out what breed everyone is taking about from just initials. Could someone give me a quick run down?

Thanks loads or as my 2 1/2 year old great-granddaughter says... Noodles and oodles!
