This is a blrw hen

THis is a splash hen

blrw chicks are born looking like chipmunks with stripes.. blue chicks are dark brown with a lighter beige down. Splash chicks are more of a lighter brown with a more yellowish down.

There should not be any silver or steel grey color. It sounds like your chicks are slw, not blrws.

I'll add these chick pictures to what Sue has posted.....maybe they'll help you figure out what you've got.

No, my chicks are not SLW, I already have those chickens. These chickens have the red color in their feathers. I just noticed that some have very dark "blue" color and some are almost silver colored. (light gray). I think they all had stripes when born. Maybe it is just variation in the color. They are only 4 weeks on Saturday.

Ok, then if they are blrw chicks, the dark ones will be blue and the ligher will be splash. A while ago, I had some hatch that were kinda silverish, maybe frosted looking, that turned into very light splash.

Hey Mrs. Turbo are we still dropping off all the coons we caught this week at Jonathans this weekend? We need some more batteries for the flashlights too....hey we could drop them off at Rudy's this time and mix it up a little?

I don't know....we might have to wait until we catch that skunk to go to Jonathans.

We hatched out a monster BLRW chick this week. I need to take a picture of it next to a SLW chick and post it. It came out of an egg we though was a double yolk.

That's like the difference between large and bantam. I'd definitely keep an eye on that one.
