The Wyandotte Thread

Wow...sorry to hear about your bad luck with the dog. If you are going to Columbus or Crossroads this fall I can try and fix you up with a nice trio or pair of BLRW...it is disapointing to put all that time, money and feed in young birds only to loose them. We had a smart coon that was going in the barn and plucking black bantam wyandotte chicks one at a time through the wire, we did finally catch him...at first I thought it was a grizzly bear he was so big.

I can relate to that we live very near a lake and coons are a big problem, we keep 6 live traps out. My Rotts usually keep everything away but they were in the house as it was 100+. I shoul dhave some young birds from my cockrell and the four pullets that made all but the last cut later this fall, I do appreciate the offer though. are you going to make Shawnee this year?

I have to admit...Shawnee took it out of me last year...LOL. We had a great show....it was a thrill to win BV in SLW at an APA National, plus being the last show to see Dave at before he passed away and getting see Jonathan Patterson beat the Rocks with his White Wyandotte for Champ American...but the snow storm on the way home was rough...30 mph all the way home from Martin, Tn. I think it is just too far away for me, if you live near there I see Terri Britt alot at the fall shows and make him transport some birds for you...

There are several LF Columbian breeders out there...Jim Konecny has very good ones..one of the best cock birds I have seen in that color...huge bird, and Don Monke has awsome pullets..he actually made his from Whites on SLW...which is pretty interesting.

I tried to find Konecny's web page. His old page for royaloaks isn't active and sent my virus software nuts. Does anyone have an updated web site?

No comments? I guess they are still to young to evaluate?

I also have another question. I was looking at legbands and I was wondering if size 12 was big enough for standard Wyandottes? What size do you all use? Do I need 13 for roos?

Ok sorry to be a pain, but I figured I would try one last time! This is my first batch so I would love some help! All I know is silkies so any input would be greatly appreciated! Also does anyone recommend a certain size leg band?

We use 11 for the hens and 12 for the cock birds.

celtictrinity,
I'm in the willamette valley. We have a small backyard chicken farmer here. He gets his birds wholesale from a hatchery in Portland. It's called something peeps. That's too bad that a place in Portland is ordering outside the state. My 3 blr wyandottes are from them and they're my favorite birds so far. I have another 6 from a hatchery that are a little neurotic.
