The Wyandotte Thread

I will eventually. I always hatch out a bunch for myself and sell my excess eggs. Although with my new GQFs I don't know how many excess eggs I'll have... I can't wait till they start laying though.

GQF?

GQF's are Sportsman incubators.

Here is my girl, Peeps, also a partridge wyandotte. She is a ravenous bug eater and lays smaller light brown eggs. I was told she would have dark chocolate eggs but apparently she didn't get the message! Very cold weather hardy.

is she a pure Wyandotte? If so, they lay cream to light brown eggs, never dark chocolate. marans and several other breeds will do that, but not wyandottes

When my daughter and I decided to buy some fancier birds we did a lot of research... I think by the time we got this chicken I was mixing everything up

It was quite a surprize to see this light brown egg when Peeps started laying when I expected dark brown, but, hey, I'm happy with ANY EGG!

haha that's ok, wyandottes are wonderful and great layers! I grew up with them and they will always be a breed I keep! If you ever do decide on dark egg layers I highly recommend the Marans. I'm in love with their personalities!

Sadly we are only allowed 6 chickens here in the city so I'm maxed out. I am hoping to try hatching some meat bird eggs if I get a broody chicken in the spring, find the eggs and find a butcher. Hopefully I won't get caught as the fines are ridiculous.

I bet. I'm so glad I am in the country. I dont' think I would handle people telling me what I can and can't do with my own property very well I fear
