The Wyandotte Thread

I just put 5 wyandotte bantam eggs in the bator (3/13) color silcer laced black and silver laced/ cuckoo. I only hatch for myself or for friends. Expected color black

unless the parents have some suprises in the family.

Yeah, we have a bold one. Flew right into the coop. It nearly scalped my husband flying back out when we ran outside to investigate the noise. We've also lost a few birds to an owl. They have no fear. I've seen some posts on BYC about hanging CDs on strings if you don't want to do the flight netting. Raptors don't like shiny things. I've bribed a few of the neighborhood crows to run security for us by leaving out corn. If there's anything you need, let me know! We need more wyandotte lovers to preserve the heritage strains.

Thank you I would of never thought about netting! Im going to have to invest in some because we have hawks here too!

Man I can't believe they're that rude! When I hear people have livestock I assume they are more equipped for life and are less reliant on the industrial world. With that being said, I'm glad to know there are more of us college students out there who have better hobbies than the hobbies forced upon us through society. Keep at it, we shall never give in haha

Anyone have bantam Columbian Wyandotte eggs, chicks, or birds for sale? I've been looking for 2 years for some. I have a lonely Bantam Columbian Wyandotte roo that could really use some friends. Please let me know. Will pay top dollar!

Laurie

Hi Laurie,

I have some nice columbian bantams, but I just mixed them back with the other breeds Sunday!

I have had so many people fail to follow through with egg purchases that I just got tired of it all. I figured why bother to keep them in breeding pens when the eggs are just going in the fridge.

If you can't find any I can separate them again and get some eggs to you.

To the best of my knowldge, Jessie Paul (Paul's Poultry-Jessie is the man), are not breeding/selling birds anymore. They still run the Bidbird.com auction site however.

Depending on what you're looking for, perhaps you could try Jerry Foley or PeakyBeaky.

Duane Urch does have nice birds, but I have no idea how long his selling season is.

Hope that helps.

I just heard back from Tracey & Paul's Poultry very much still in business! Yayyyy!!!

I wanted to pass around the word so everyone knows. They are starting to incubate now and will have chicks available soon. I'm very, very excited!!!

Hi there, Wyandotte lovers.

Anyone feel like helping me sex some 3 week old chicks? I have 25 straight run, LF Wyandottes. Colors include partridge, Columbian, gold, silver, and buff.

I need to re-home the cockerels ASAP. The woman who sold them to me is in search of a partridge male, and I think I might have one, so I'd like to get him to her if I can.

TIA

Check their combs. The cockerels will start pinking. The pullets will stay yellow.

Your in luck the partridge males will be easy to pick out as they get older. They might even be easy to pick out now. :) If you post pics I'll use my VERY limited knowledge to help ;).

God bless,
Tyler.

Thanks, y'all. I'll post a couple of pics tomorrow. They really are nice to look at anyway, aren't they? I think the two Columbian are my favorite, but the partridge are beautiful, too. They're all out of a gold laced rooster who's pretty nice looking (not that I am in any way a competent judge of these things, but he's pretty).

Their brooder light is red, but I've been trying to look at combs. I think it must be easier to tell with single-combed breeds, but we like rose and pea combs up in these cold parts:)

I'll probably just go ahead and get netting so I'll feel reassured they are safe! And I will keep in touch! I'm sure I'll have lots a questions up the road once they've grown a littler bigger!
