I went outside and took a few pics of the juvenile blues (2 month old group). They're at that ratty stage where they still have fuzz around the eyes. I've already been culling for any thin tails, crow head and gypsy face. I've only had a few with pinched tails so far this year; much better than last year. Now to work on that nice wide head.

All the ones in the top photo are pre sold!

The cockerels are always front and center. The pullets are a bit more courteous, lol. I did have more cockerels hatch in Jan/Feb. It seems like I have more pullets in the brooders downstairs right now from the March hatches.

I don't have much problem selling the cull cockerels. I put an ad on craigslist for Sunday dinner chicks and the phone rings!

Are gypsy faces when their eyes dont really fit their sokets? Or is it something else? Sorry for the random question.

Keep me updated on the black one. I'm forming a theory that the ones born with a solid black head have a gypsy face when adult. Yours has a little white on the chin so I'd like to see if the black recedes. It always seems the gypsy faces have the best type.

Off to the swap they go! My blue tweens with black faces also have the best lacing on their feathers. I guess I can't have it both ways...

So all the babies are done hatching now. I had 2 eggs that didn't pip at all so I candled then opened them up... one was a beautiful full term light blue baby and the other was an OE/dotte mix.

There's around 30 in the brooder now, plus 5 GL chicks. I will get some pictures of them tomorrow =)
