The Wyandotte Thread

he's beautiful! I'm looking for a show quality breeder and I'm wondering how much it costs to ship pullets because I want to make sure I get all hens. I already have a roo and hen I bought from a show breeder at a show, and I would like more eggs! Even though I am not going to get into showing right now (I want to learn how to take care of them, etc. I don't want to purchase hens from a hatchery if they won't even have the correct combs or markings for the breed). I love how docile mine are and if shipping them after they have been sexed isn't too expensive that's fantastic!

any show breeders that do that please message me!!!!
the cost for shipping depends on the size and weight of the box, of course. i use USPS.com, shipping next day/2nd day, input the approx size and weight of the shipping box (http://poultry2.tripod.com/id3.html or http://www.hm-e.net/A_chickens.htm). i add about 5 pounds to the estmated weight of the bird to cover for the weight of the box/fruit/shavings/etc.

taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyandotte_(chicken)

Approximate weight
Cock 3.2 - 3.9 kg 7.1 - 8½ lbs
Hen 2.7 - 2.9 kg 6.0 - 6.5 lbs
Cockerel 3.4 kg 7.5 lbs
Pullet 2.5 kg 5.5 lbs

Bantam Variety Wyandotte
Rooster 1.7 kg 3.7 lbs
Hen 1.3 kg 2.9 lbs

and don't forget to factor in the cost of the shipping box too... plus how ever much the breeder wants for the bird too. quite often it's more economical to purchase several youngsters at once that will fit within the weight range of the box in question. i once had a cochin breeder tape a chick box to the side of the adult box, with a splash pullet in it. multiple birds also help save some shipping cost per bird.

I cruised past this picture and, for a second, thought "why is there a picture of a huge Silkie in this thread?"

Their tails are just so round and fluffy!

For the bunny tail I can see it on the hens but does the rooster have it? The roosters tail looks okay to me but I want to be sure I'm not associating a bunny tail as a good Wyandotte tail.

i think 'bunny tail' is not a good thing...

i found this image, and it gives a pretty good idea of what the topline/tails are supposed to be more like...
