Sorry to hear about the chicks that you lost. Congrats on the chicks that made it though

I lost 2 more since the last time I posted on the boards, but MM did include 1 extra in addition to the mystery chick (which is a banty cochin as far as I can determine...either black or barred) so I am down to 23 of the 26 that I received (but I haven't lost any in the last week, so hopefully that should be it for the losses). I still have 17 eggs developing on Day 15 (candled yesterday - 11 wheaten maran eggs, 6 banty buff bramha still going, only had to toss out 5 eggs) so I should have plenty of chickens running around in my barn this year

Good luck with your chicks!

Well, Z I lost 3 more today, talked to MMH and they are replacing all 50 of the bantams. Both the feather footed fancies and bantam cochin assortments. They will be coming the first weekend in May. Should be warm enough for them by then. Thanks for your condelences. I hope your babies are doing good and that you don't loose any more either.

I still have two eggs in the bator that are due to hatch next Monday, so they come outta the turner Friday am, and increase the humidity.

Don't know about the black one, does it have feathered legs and 5 toes. The yellow one with black spots looks like a sam. fav. it is if it has feathered legs and 5 toes.

ok, my daughter was home today and she helped me with the chicks this morning. We washed bums, and guess what them two white with black spots on them; had 5 toes! I am so excited! I have two 5 toed chicks.

Congrats on the sam. favs. You can tell if there male or female early with them. When the wing feathers first start coming in the males will be black and the females brown.
Good luck:)

Really REP! That's cool, I wouldn't mind if one was a roo as they are pretty. Might have to go check them out. Even though I grew up with chickens, I never actually got all that excited when mom had them. Now I just love them. I don't mind having an assortment of them. It's actually pretty cool. My hubby keeps teasing me along with my family about the chickens are going to take over the cows pretty soon. LOL
