Their Names

We have 3 buffs and a rir rooster. The rooster got named "Red" and the buffs are "lucky" (she survived a dog attack that kill the rest of the flocks) "Penny" and "Bobtail" (Cause her tail hasn't grown in yet). Penny and Bobtail our our new additions as well as Red. We had a stray dog kill the whole flock when they were out free ranging and we came home to chicken corpses everywhere. We had 10 cornish x's and 5 buff orpingtons, but they were all killed but Lucky by the stray dog. I just picked up the other two Buffs from a friend of mine as well as the rooster. She was trying to cut down her flock some and had way to many roosters as well. These ones are much sweeter then the Cornish X's!

The names everyone has for their chickens give me inspiration for future chickens.

So far, I have 2 polish hens, Sha-nay-nay and Courtney (used to have a Shaniqua, wonder what happened...)
1 Polish Roo, Mattias/Rex. Depends on who's calling for him. He comes running when I call him Mattias, runs to my sister when she calls him Rex...
4 bantom Brahma hens: Cherry, Clover, Peach and Willow (Not very original, and they are all quadruplets! I can't tell them apart!)
And my favorite, somewaht cuddley and quite saucy roo, Kurano.

Hoping to very soon recieve some Porcelain D'Uccles from a friend. Their names are Ghostie and Waif!

Thank you. I wanted our coop to look like a playhouse or shed if ever we were to move...here are a couple more pics.

I had fun reading all of the chickens names. "Oprah Gayle" was my favorite. Sha-nay-nay also made me smile!

I agree that you need to know their personalities before you name them. Here are mine:

Black Cochins: Pooty and Tootie

My old lady BLRWs: Vivienne and Sunny

SLW: Oreo

Buff Minorca: Chicken Little (although we refer to her as "the dork" because she is). She runs around like the sky is falling!

EE: Brenda

Buckeye: Buckey (I know, not original at all)

Lav Orp hen: Princess Layer (I love that one)

Lav Orp Roo: Steve Holt (any Arrested Development fans?)

That is exactly what I plan on doing when I redo our coop, I have the plans drawn up already so once the spring comes Im going to get at it. I want my girls to be comfortable and theres no reason they need to be in an icky old standard box. A friend of mine plays classical music during the day in the coop and he swears his girl sare much happier with it. Again, thank you for the pictures, you have a great setup for your girls

Thank you again....Make sure to send pics when you are done. Music is good for anyone and anything!

I have a Daisy and a Clara as well. I really wanted to name one "Hazel" but a friend just named her baby that, so it seemed wrong. We had a Cuckoo Maran, Jessie Ruth, who died on August 16.

Yes...I seem to see my own name (Hazel) being given alarmingly frequently to chickens!

I'll try not to take offense. Actually if it wasn't my name, it would probably be one of our chickens' names already. Good name. Ours are Nutmeg, Griffin (RIP), Pippin, and Lizzy. New chicks are going to be Zephyr (Zelda?...debatable), Triscuit, and TBA little Buff Orpington!

I am trying to use every letter of the alphabet once. So far so good. Here are my new girls.
L-R
Olivia (12 days old) EE
Roberta (5 days old) Silver Laced Wyandotte
Veronica (5 days old) Barred Rock
Zsa Zsa (5 days old) Silver Laced Wyandotte

And Eliza (12 days old) EE
