*Theraflu WORKS!!*Flu-Updates and Procedures

The Motrin IB is ibuprofen and the Tylenol knock-off is aceto...the pink stuff, I have no idea but I'm not taking it anymore. Was SOOO gross.

I was worried about lowering my temp because of the whole "fever is there to help kill the bad stuff" but if I can't even keep water or gatorade down, it's just not a good thing.

Since using the ice pack...I can't explain how much better I feel. I'm not sweating, chilling, aching. I'm coughing and sneezing more, but it's better than laying on the floor next to the toilet. I slept there last night Boyd!

i think a lot of things are deemed unsafe these days, when they really arent.

Thanks for the well-wishes all! Apparently I used too much ice today and the freezer hasn't caught back up. So...I'm out of ice.

On a side note, I've been calling into work because I'm simply too sick to work. I called tonight and the manager seemed ticked that I was calling him again. He said I could fill out a leave of absence. Well freakin' gawd. How about you tell me about that BEFORE I call in every day and use my points!!!!!

Another thing you can do is put an ice pack under your arms. (my youngest would have febral seizures when he was younger...we were told to do this to help him so it wouldn't spike too fast)

Also, DO NOT drink water when you are vomiting. You will dehydrate yourself. I was told by my kids pediatrician to not drink anything for an hour after vomiting. Then, sip electrolytes. (gatorade, powerade, even pedialyte etc) If you keep that down, an hour later, try eating something very high in starch...I usually give whoever is sick, raw spaghetti noodles, or crackers. Please don't hesitate to go to the doctor if you feel worse. Take care and get well soon!!!

Don't drink water? Is there a reason??

I hate drinking water in Fayetteville. It's so gross. They blame it on the lake turning, but seriously, how often can a lake turn over?!

I've only been drinking apple juice and gatorade. I'm almost out of gatorade so I need to get some more.

Water will not replace fluids lost, as it doesn't have any vitamins/electrolytes.
You can also mix about a half tsp of salt, half tsp of baking soda, and 4 Tsp of sugar. Clear broth is good as well.

Rubbing a child with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol used to be a popular folk remedy for quickly reducing a fever. The alcohol does cool the skin as it evaporates, but the fact that it works so quickly is part of the problem.

When you cool a child too fast — with alcohol or a cool bath, for example — it can be counterproductive. The child may start to shiver, which signals his body to raise his temperature again.

In addition, the alcohol can be absorbed through the skin as well as inhaled, causing alcohol poisoning.

There are much better options, including a cool washcloth on the forehead, a sponge bath with lukewarm to warm water, or over-the-counter fever reducers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Ok, you SHOULD be drinking WATER to replace lost fluids. Anything with electrolytes in it would be good to drink as well. I would have a glass of water and a glass of another drink next to you. You want to avoid dehydration which = hospital. To check if you are getting enough to drink pinch the skin on the back of your hand. If the skin remains in a 'tent' you are not getting enough fluids. Taking small sips is the best idea since your stomach is irritated. Wait 1/2 hour to an hour after an episode to start sipping. Tea, apple juice, pedialyte, gatorade, if you can keep down bananas, chicken broth, ..... shoot for clear liquids since they will be easier on your system at first.

Good luck, that flu is running rampant here but nobody at my house has gotten it yet.

For some reason, water tastes SO good right now. I have to drink it slowly though. The ice pack is helping me ridiculously to keep me cool and from visiting the tub-o-dump.

BUT, I would like to offer some help for others suffering from this. This medicine, in a drinkable form called Theraflu Flu and Sore Throat formula (warming) tastes awful. And honestly? You won't want to take it a second time because of the warming..which actually feels like burning. But it helps SO much!!!!

It helps your throat, coughing, fever, aches. It makes your stomach bubble, but helps SO much. It's the only medicine I've found that helps.

As for a drink, get Squirt. OMG. It's grapefruit juice that's carbonated. It tastes so good. (A good chaser for the Theraflu.)

Hopefully this will help someone else!

ETA: Within 30 minutes of taking the Theraflu, get in bed because you are NOT going to be able to fight off the sleep episode.
