Hello
I am going to start a small liter of chickens to help my parents enjoy life more during their older days. My father truly enjoys watching and feeding the birds and chickens that partake in his sharing treats to the neighbors chickens.
They seem to find their way over the field to see him in the warmer weather.
Hope this gets nice improvement in their exercise routine.
Trying to figure out what kind of coop to build and chicken to purchase.
Thank you for this fun app.

Welcome to BYC!! I find that Barred Rocks and Orpingtons are really good starter birds! Some other good ones are Easter Eggers (for egg color variety), and Rhode Island Reds.

Welcome!
Be sure to build them a large walk in coop. being able to walk in to it makes for much easier cleaning.
Couldn't agree more. And make sure they don't have to bend over to get the eggs. Good luck with your project!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Definitely build something you can stand in, makes it SO much easier to work in and deal with chickens. 5sq ft per bird in the coop, 10sq ft in the run. Lots of ventilation in the eaves.

I am a huge fan of the Orps... Buff Orpingtons and Black Australorps. They will follow you around like puppies, they are hardy, healthy, great layers and live a long time.

Good luck and welcome aboard!
