I’ll post pix when it starts to feather out. There’s one more egg still in the bator, day 23. Should I give it more time? I tried to candel before lockdown but eggs were just too dark.

Give it to 48 hours from the time the first one hatched. Fully hatched, not pipped.
You could also tap the egg and listen for peeps. Sometimes you can even tell by feel, whether there is movement inside, or if it has quit.

If you hold the egg to your ear, can you hear anything like a ticking or scraping sound? If so, put it back in the bator and wait. If not, you can do the water test, which I do not like but as you have had such a good hatch and this is the last egg, you could try the water test and see what happens. Just be absolutely sure that the chick has not pipped otherwise you could drown it. Put water in a measuring jug, 100 degrees, put egg in water very gently and wait for the water to settle and see if there is any movement, or the egg starts to twitch on its own. Dont touch it, just watch it. If it moves around take it out and put it back in the bator and wait.....

well the last egg didnt hatched so I checked it in warm water, no movement. so I froze it and checked it. it was a fully formed chick but had not piped internally. that was day 24. pretty sure it had given up.

Shoot, I'm sorry. You got an excellent hatch otherwise though, so enjoy those gorgeous little chickers of yours. Oh, and please post about your pale one, I will try to keep the thread and send you a message in about 6 weeks. OK?

I also had a very good hatch this week from some greenfire French black copper marans eggs that I bought from a farm in Texas and had shipped to me. Out of 16 eggs, I have 12 beautiful chicks. One of them is yellow with some silver highlights. Everyone else was black with some yellow/white highlights.

This is my first time ever hatching this breed and I didn’t expect a yellow one. The seller told me that it is a “snowbird” and that they tend to happen during winter. She also told me that when it matures that it will be solid white and if it is a hen that she will lay the dark colored eggs that marans are known for. Hoping that it’s a little pullet. I will post pics as it matures. Hopefully this will be helpful to those out there with questions about these little anomalies.

well the white FBCM looks like a leghorn. Unfortunately he was one of nine cockerels that were re homed.

So he feathered out pure white? I was hoping he would have some kind of splash coloring. Oh well. Good job on finding him a home.
