Hi so last night I went to close the coop door and count the chickens it was dark so all I had was a flash light and so I seen a couple of my chickens on the ground when they should have been roosting so I point the flash light up to count the chickens and there it was a snake head poking out behind the chickens on the roost sniffing my chickens it was only a rat snake but still it was a pretty good sized snake what should I do to keep the snakes out of my coop I have a broody with a chick and don't want her to get eaten 20180630_220053.jpg

Gosh... I hate snakes...
i hate snakes that come in to my coop lol but i did use to have a corn snake has a pet his name was no feet :lau but we gave him away im hoping no other snakes will try and get in the coop im so happy it was only a rat snake and could not hurt anyone and im so happy that my broodys chick did not get eaten :):jumpy

Put the broody in a pen made of 1/2" hardware cloth.

Knowing more about your coop and run would allow us to make suggestions.
well it has chicken wire in the run on three walls then there is a up stars that has walls al around which is where they roost and where the snake was there are holes on the ground that a snake could fit through i keep covering it up but the chickens keep uncovering it any other ways that snakes can get through im hoping to fix them but is there anything i can do to keep the snakes away from the coop

I would put something like hardware cloth all the way around the bottom 2 or 3 feet and especially over those holes.
Yep. 1/2" HC all around.

Clearing vegetation from around the coop might help too.

How did you 'cover' the holes?
