Hi, I need recommendations for a tried and true thermometer. I set 12 eggs and it's looking like only 3 may hatch. There are many reasons why that may be. Specifically I am looking for a new thermometer. I have a little giant incubator. Model number is 10300. I am using an egg turner. I candled them at 6 days and again today (day 8). I had one yolker. The other 11 at least started developing. Of the remaining 11, I can see the embryos moving in 3 of them. I feel like temperature regulation is my biggest issue. Mainly because I can't tell if the temp is correct. The thermometer I purchased for double checking is obviously garbage. Thanks.

I suggest you go to the Pharmacy and purchase a manual people thermometer.
Found available in Walgreens, as well as Walmart.

Place thermometer among your eggs inside incubator, and note the temperature reading. Then compare to the digital reading on Incubator. Adjust your temperature accordingly.
That means to have the IDEAL TEMPERATURE of 99.5*F your digital reading may be different by whatever value it is off accuracy.
WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and :welcome

I've found most thermometers to be junk, even medical, aquarium and incubator company products. At least junk for proper incubation temps.
My two recommendations for accuracy out of the box are the Brinsea spot check and the Thermoworks RT301WA

The latter is my favorite.
I gotta agree. I’ve seen many cheaper therms, even medical mercury therms laying side by side and read 1°-3° different. . There’s only so much you can expect from a $10 instrument. You might get lucky and get a good one and you might now

Thank you so much! I will look them both up. As of today I could see 4 embryos of 12 eggs set originally. I'm learning as info. This was my test run.

I'm open to all suggestions if you have a favorite go to thermometer.

I bought this one from Amazon for $12ish. I’m only on Day 8 (placed eggs in incubator on Feb 11 @7pm). But using that thermometer I’ve been able to keep my temp where it needs to be.

I did get some tips that placing it on top of the eggs will get an accurate reading vs on the floor since heat rises.

I would try to aim for one you can calibrate since I can’t calibrate this one. All I did was leave it in my living room for a while and it read roughly what my house thermostat read. I of course just do the math difference. But it’s working for me for now. I’ll know on Day 21 just how well it worked.

I saw that one on a list of recommended ones. I almost went with it. Let me know how it works. Of the 12 I set on February 10th, 4 I can see embryos in. I'll be ecstatic if they all 4 hatch. Time will tell!
