Thank you everyone! That's why I came here, I knew fellow chicken lovers would really understand!

I looked everywhere for tracks and this is all that I found...It was not too far from the coop--maybe 20-30 feet ?

A bear? That's my ugly foot-lol- I wear an 8.5 shoe-

four different spots on the side of the house- right under my kids window's!!! My dogs were in there!!

There was no blood but there was an egg-

By the coop- MY BO!!! They plucked them and laid the feathers down so neatly???

what could have done this? Whatever it was it took it's sweet time and taunted us--it had to be big enough to eat the whole chicken--I just got back in and I was out with the dogs and they nor I found anything--NOTHING!

I am so sorry for your loss, I know what its like to walk in and see that. I am happy at least that you have recovered one. I hope she is okay.

I think he just found him already dead. That one dog could not have killed 5 fully grown chickens and 4 babies on his own.

We had a stray dog show up two summers ago, we live in a rural area with no animal control or anything. I called the police station and they said all I could do was shoot him. I didn't feel that was right so I put an ad up to find him a home. Within two days of being cared for, he got up enough energy to kill ALL 15 of my laying hens in one night. (13 were dead right away, two were brought in but died later in the day)
But dogs don't really eat too much chicken, they kill for sport, for the fun of it. Other animals are more than happy to come along and take what they want after the fact.
I'm not ashamed to say I did shoot that dog. I had alot taken from me that day, and you know how painful it is too.​

I'm probably totally wrong but it looks like a big cat pawprint in the sand. That's the only thing i could think of considering your in Florida. So sorry you lost so many!

Come to think of it...it does look like the work of a cat too, they always leave clumps of feathers lying around. Do you guys have bobcats, cougars, mountain lion type wild cats in Florida?

Cindiloohoo We do have the fl panther and other wild cats but cats are usually light and don't leave such heavy prints....we also have bear....who knows....a neighbor complained about a bear in his back yard a few years ago that kept eating his goats...but I hadn't seen one in my yard? We all have 10 acres so he was a good 30+ acres from me....

I am sorry about your loss mtnkids, I thought the same thing...dogs would kill for the thrill and leave some sort of carcass laying around but nope nothing...I wouldn't feel bad killing that dog--I tried to run over this one and I will shoot it if it enters my yard again...it's lucky it got away--

it is not a wild cat, cats have retractable claws so i'm sure that is was a bear, i dunno bout the feathers in little bunches like that, but those are bearprints for sure

Well...learn something new every day! I had NO CLUE that Florida has bears! That's the only reason I didn't say it was a bear LOL!! I thought it looked like a bear track, but that just didn't make sense to me... Still sorry about your birds, that's so sad

Yeah the bunches of feathers was REALLY weird, I just feel it had nothing to fear so it was just going to take it's time and lay there and enjoy it's dinner--

I would think coyotes or wolves would leave bits and pieces, they are like normal dogs and tear things up to shreds...

I agree silkieluver_07 -- they were the only prints I seen anywhere since whatever killed them ( I am assuming they are dead ) did it all in the grass--
