Thank goodness you found little Misty.
I found my 2 OFF the property after they where attacked, so i'd take a long walk.

As for the lack of blood. Only 2 of 6 hens i had taken left any blood... and it was spots...and on snow. So i could see it.

There may be blood you can't see or they died without their skin breaking.

I reckon the feathers in one space is just where they were attacked personally.

Animals will kill and go search for the other, then collectin the end...

As for the Roo. I bet he escaped with injury, and died later. And the dog found him... Or he had injury and the dog killed him... who can be sure?
I'd say he had a run though

Once again i really feel for you

I had the dog kill the 25 chickens , no blood , all from one dog within a hour. I let them out to ffree range ,then went to town and back within a hour, dog ran off, he had kill over 25 of my 50 cornish cross (grown). Looked like piles of snow all over the yard, in the summer....just wet none ripped up.

My money is on the dog, heck it even had one in its mouth. No way would a chicken survive a bear attack, Dog kill for the fun, so you would find just feathers or whole bodies. Even like one still alive, but just been carried off. Dog would also hide them.

Would think the bear would eat them there, so should find some body parts. Plus even in grass area a heavy bear would leave some tracks, near where the feathers are. Sure that track is a black bear, but how far from the kill area????

Now a great horn owl would carry them away, leaving only feathers. Look on roofs of building for signs of a kill.(they like to eat off the ground) They will take , up to about 3 a night.

Still think the dog was still carring around one, that he kill, as his new toy.

I'm sorry for your lost. Thank goodness you found one.

The pic. of the paw print is a bear. I would say young sow. You do have BLk. Bears where you live. They have smaller paws then brn. bears and Brn bears are out west/ north. The longer paw prints are of the back paws, shorter is front paws. Hope this helps you.
Good Luck with your girl. What I would do is elec. fence for poultry. Then about a foot off of that run elec. fence for horses or any live stock. They will have to have something with alot of juice to it. We have Honey Bees and had to put up a elec. fence around back of the house where the game resv. starts to keep them away. I still will find one on the porch after cat food onces every year or so. They will keep coming back till you chase them off by shoting over thier heads or the fence maybe both. Bears have been known to pluck feathers, just like the big cats / small cats will pluck or peel fur off prey. Also could have suprised the chickens and when they started flying was swatting at them taking feathers with every swipe. Sorry that is a bad picture to think of. Just trying to answer your ?'s with truth. Will be keeping fingers crossed for you!
