I have had one trooper of a pullet that laid all through the dark days of winter, yesterday, there were two eggs, spring is coming and we are on the uptick. I see combs are beginning to redden, more eggs are coming soon.

Breakfast is back in style, love this hobby!

Yay! I know exactly how you are feeling. I don't buy eggs at the store unless absolutely necessary because free range are way to expensive and the other egg options are just inhumane. I just made omlets yesterday for the first time in months and it was great! We only have 3-4 hens laying right now but that's enough for breakfast. I'm excited for the days when we have so many eggs that we have to sell them and give them away to people so they don't go bad.

I love getting eggs, and as I add and subtract each year, I am going to add some comets or cinnamon queens. One egg a day is not enough for me. I have been looking at perhaps trying the icelandic chickens, but I think I may just go with an ordinary egg laying flock, and raise up some meat birds for eating. Still debating, but I really don't like an eggless winter, so there are going to be some egg layers in my flock.
