They are never going to lay are they?

My RIR and Barred Rocks are 27 weeks this week. I have had only 1 egg a day (most days) since we adopted 1 RIR this Summer. Yesterday I went out to feed and get my 1 egg and SURPRISE, there were 3. One was so tiny and dainty. Today hoping to get another 3 eggs and an even bigger surprise! 7 eggs. Looks like I had 2 new layers yesterday and 4 more new layers today. Go Girls! I was about to give up on them. Just gotta be patient. No blue/green yet from my EE. It will make you smile when it finally happens.

I have had chickens for nearly 40 years, off and on, and spent plenty of time waiting on dozens of different breeds of pullets. Everyone of them laid their eggs. The longest wait was 7 months.

I just said on another post, that I learn something knew all the time on here, and this is another one. I knew that we women are, but never thought about animals or fowl.. See, now we know why they start slowing down in their old age.. light bulb moment for a senior citizen.

Sometimes it just takes longer. Every pullet matures at a different rate. You will get eggs and as Linda said, it's better for their bodies to lay later. I'm still waiting on a few pullets that hatched 3/9.

Same goes for the partridge rock?? She has been very slow to even start looking like a hen. Are the barred rocks the same? I have a smaller barred pullet to wait on.
