That's what I'm thinking about doing with mine in a few weeks (mine are only 10 days old right now, but growing like weeds). We have a small insulated barn and I spent the night in it a couple of weeks ago with a sick goat when the wind chill was -7°F (yes, that is BELOW 0°F). I had a heat lamp hooked up and was quite comfortable in just a long skirt and a sweatshirt. If the lamp were closer to the ducklings (it was clamped about 6 feet high the night I stayed in there), they should be quite warm enough. My plans are to put in a big oblong metal livestock water tank with the heat lamp fastened on one end (out of their reach, of course). That way they can get under the light if they start to get cold, and can go to the other end of the tank if they start to get too warm. Hubby is going to make me a covering made from chain link fence over the top of the tank to keep the adult ducks and hens out of their tank.
