They bit my baby...

Sounds like many of you either have (or knows someone with)aggressive geese or expect them to become aggressive at maturity....is that right? I understand that they get a chip on their shoulder during mating season, thought it would pass though...

Sorry about your little one, that must have been very scarey!

I told my 6yr old to give it a swift kick in the pants after he was approached abruptly from one of the Ganders. He did that and it worked for him. Geese are smart. Great birds to have. Except when they know feeding time is at 0700hrs as they sing under my window wanting fed.

Mine knows it's feeding time when they hear me and/or I have a 'cup' in my hand. Doesn't matter if it's a can of Coke, they still think it's for them! One day I was sitting in my bedroom (windows closed and all) and coughed...I was immediately answered with 'MAAAAAA', I guess they were hungry!

hahaha, they will recognize your voice. I speak within hearing distance and they come running wings spread and voicing their opinion.

i was attacked by my Grandpa's turkeys, he had like a zillion of them, thats my memory anyways, but to this day, i love Turkey. He would butcher them things, and have me at there to collect the money, Thanksgiving and Christmas, he will always be special to me. Love you Pawpaw.

What an amazing little story your mother came up with!
That's a good way to be sure your children don't have an unnatural fear of geese because of one bad experience.

mine are nuts right now too... my gander went after an old lame hen and was trying to kill her! normally he only gets really onry at mating season but he's completely off his rocker right now. he's being penned up as we have baby ducks thats he's waaaay to interested in.

sorry he got her
:-(

bad gooses is right!

If you have ganders I can see that happaning. Our geese are coming into themselves lately and boy owe boy do those young ganders want to test you. Stay safe!!!!

Our African geese attacked my mom once...we never went in the barnyard without a stick cause the turkeys and the geese were so mean, but she forgot one time.

Last night our sebright roo took after my 4yo son and had him screaming and running circles to get away. I agree, nothing makes me see red faster than something bothering my kids. SO heres me, mad as a wet hen, chasing the 8 oz rooster for 20 min trying to catch him to let him have it. All that running cooled my temper a bit and he is still alive so far...
