So your birds could be from hatchery stock. Hatcheries don't breed for the breed standard, as a rule, they breed for birds that more or less look like the breed. They also tend to focus more on egg production. So, your girls could be hatchery Marans, you'll probably have to wait until they lay to see how dark the eggs are. That's another thing hatcheries don't cull for is egg color. It's kind of a bummer, when you're expecting these specific birds and eggs and you don't necessarily get them......

Yep, clean legged means without feathers.

Some of my hens have just a touch of copper at the throat. It's not "correct" and will be something I'll be culling for if I move forward with this breed. But for your backyard birds, it really doesn't matter cause you're not breeding or showing. Hopefully you get some dark eggs
