They don't like BOSS

Chickens are weird. One batch loves BOSS and corn and another batch won't touch either one. They'll pick through and get the wheat, oats and such and leave the cracked corn and black sunflower seeds. Neither BOSS nor scratch is any "treat" to them at all. There's little rhyme or reason sometimes.

Free grit here, guys.... well, not free....

I've gotta look for that kind. Buy the chicken food and the grit for one low price.

Holy cow!! I am amazed to see that there are chickens that don't like that BOSS! We buy them in as large a bag as we can find. The horses get 1 cup 2x a day with their daily grain & hay & we also mix it into the scratch we buy. We tried layer, but they would rather starve & actually did a pretty good job at it when we tried switching them to straight layer crumbles or pellets. We either buy the fighting (?) scratch & mix it with BOSS & oyster shells or buy a cheap bag of high protein horse feed & mix it.

If we have one we think it getting kind of puny, we will seperate & mix wheat germ oil into the feed. The only one it didn't work with was the roo with the breathing problems we had. Never did figure that out. The wheat germ oil only takes a tiny bit but it goes a long way & doesn't seem to hurt them. Also, for 1 oz., it is 95% fat.
