We just got what we thought was grower mash (actually what we asked for) and when we arrived back home realized they gave us Purina starter grower crumble (non medicated). Too far to return the 100lbs of feed so we started using it and the chicks (35 of them) don't seem to like it. Will they get used to it? Before they were eating like pigs. we were going through 50 lbs a week.

I'm sure they'll get used to it. If you want, you could put a dish of yogurt in with them and sprinkle the new feed on top of it to get them used to it. Good luck! WOW - 50# in a WEEK? That's a lot of feed!

I keep thinking that but all they seem to be doing is pooping in the feeders as well. That's what they think of the new feed! At that rate I'll end up throwing it all out. I think I'll need to hang the feeder to stop that bad behavior. My older hens are just fine with the feeders on the ground.

I agree with chickentoes. When they get hungry enough they'll eat it.
You should try hanging your feeders. You'll find out they waste much less. Hang the feeders so that the bottom of it is level with the smallest chicken's back.

I agree with these posts.

Nice thing about this site is if you have a question you will get an answer. Most of the time they are right. In this case good advise you should follow.
