I saw a hawk ( on video) reach in and pull one of my 3/4 pound peachicks through the bars of my doggy ex-pen out! My husband took pictures and video of it instead of chasing it away.
I could have killed my now ex-husband for standing there watching and letting a hawk do that!

Gash is surely a surviver and deserved his place in your heart, boy or girl! If he is boy it might mean that he fought off the intruder!

Its called Blu Kote, and you should be able to get it at any feed store. It is blue'ish purple in color and will stain the dickens out of EVERYTHING...but It forms a protective barriier, like skin, and immediately dries out the wound, while providing antiseptic. A bit like mercuricrome (sp??). I've used I after a hawk attackk sliced open my Dutch Bantam and shes a-ok now.

You can usee it on dogs and other farm animals as well, just not cats.

She's absolutely beautiful! She's definitely a keeper after this ... especially since she's so attached to you. Love that she comes to you every time...
And again, I'm so sorry this happened -

I think, maybe, sometimes it takes a catastrophe for them to really realize you are their protector and caregiver. I think this chick sees me as its saver, and loves me ffor it. Cute little thing.

Today I got my chicks up after they were done playing outside. I have a two week old and four week old batch of meaties. One chick has a deep gash under his chin. Much deeper and he could have bled to death. How in the heck he hurt himself or someone hurt him? They seemed to be getting along fine, playing and running around?
