They have all been eaten

So I walk out to momma hen freaking out. Squeaking up a storm! A chicken snake had crawled up and eaten momma hens eggs. In total I had 4 eggs but one got crushed and the other wasn’t fertile.
Snake has been killed but so has the last 2 eggs that were suppose to hatch on Friday.

That being said what do I do now?
She’ll set again😊. It is a sad thing when our pets and wee ones fall victim to the food chain. As far as the snake, you did what you felt was due at the time. I’ve relocated snakes, but would probably have done the same as you if I saw the bugger in action. Is the rooster in with her? I’d think he’d help deter snakes. My cats also help with keeping the snakes away. They have caught quite a few large snakes. I also resorted to putting moth balls around the outside of the coop one time. I can’t claim that they’re a legit deterrent, but I listen to the old timers, who some of which claim so. I’ve also heard to make a fake nest of golf balls to rod snakes. I enjoy the biddies, but am always anxious for them to grow bigger to avoid the snake consequence. Then, it’s the hawks, coons, possum, fox, coyote, etc. Where you did great, is that you responded to her distress calls. You took care of the present problem. Hopefully, it will be a long while before another snake comes. Keep up the good work! Best of luck!
