I'm glad your hubby is ok.
We have lost 2 different Highway Patrol Officers to drunk drivers in the last couple of years. They were on routine patrol and the drunks hit them head on. No lights no sirens.
Had an incident last week. Got paged out to a large fire to provide mutal aid and this grain truck would not get out of my way. Had the lights going; we do not have a siren; but I was laying on the horn. Finally had a wide enough spot to pass him. It was our jerk neighbor. Hope he doesn't have a fire this year I know I'll say something to him.
Our law requires you to slow down to 45mph and if possible to pull into the next lane safely when you come upon a law enforcement or fire or EMS vehicle with it's lights flashing.
Common sense also says to pull into the next lane when coming upon a disabled vehicle. I've had people suddenly throw their doors open in front of me when I am passing them.
A friend of mine was at an accident scene in his full turn outs helping and some lookieloo smacked him with the side mirror on their truck, happened right in front of the MHP officer who took off after the driver. Driver tried to claim to not have seen him. They got ticketed with careless driving, speeding through an accident scene, failure to stop after causing an accident, and reckless endangerment.
