THEY HAVE OFFICIALY DECLARED SWINE FLU A PANDEMIC!!!

Well, since I've already survived through SARS and the bird flu going around, I'm not too worried about the swine flu.

I'm not sure why the media loves to follow every possible flu outbreak with such determination. It's a bit Chicken Little-esque if you ask me!

Well the big difference between this flu and the 'regular flu' is this, It's H1N1 !! THAT'S why the CDC is making a BIG DEAL out of it!

If it mutates into the deadly form that it did in 1918, we'll all wish that we would have gotten this round of it... to make us immune from the killer it could mutate into... and with transportation like it is now, it would spread VERY rapidly!

In March before the 'spaz' of media attention my family came down with some kind of 'unknown' virus. We had blood work done, doc thought maybe strep: nope, then mono: nope oh well we don't know treat symptoms you'll be fine.

We went through 5 days of 103 degree fever, non stop nothing brought it down, just wanted to lay and stare everything hurt/felt bad. No one wanted to eat and it took all my pushing to get kids/hubby and me to drink anything. We all lost weight. My hubby lost 10 pounds.

Okay so what I didn't mention to the doctor at the time was my husband had been in Mexico city on business for 7 days and had returned 5 days prior to our oldest daughter (8 yrs old) getting sick.

Later after the spaz I told our doctor at a yearly thing and she said that was it. She wants us to get antibodie tests done but insurance won't cover it and I'm not paying for them.

But we lived. It was a really bad, awful flu. No vomiting but no appetite. Mostly fever and then cough with some congestion. But the fever was the worse.

I think anyone with some common sense about treating the flu will be fine. If you can't breathe go to the hospital otherwise wash your hands, drink your fluids and rest. In a week you'll feel drained and hungry but fine.

Just remember in 1918 there were less doctors, less fever reducing drugs and worse sanitation. In 1918 my great grandparents were still getting water from a 'city well' in Baltimore City and coming into contact with not very clean folks. Plus hygiene wasn't as good.

Just my two cents.

I believe a lot of people have already had it..

Not gonna worry till I have to. I've got plenty to stress about.. Just no more room in the stress department these days.

Good valid point ,
Problem is if we all freaked over everyting that could ever possibley come back and bite us in the behind we would all live in little padded rooms , just getting in your car everyday is dangerous so is swimming and farming and horse back rideing and hunting and boating and and and and and and .
I will not give in to fear , I do my best do make shure my son and I are as safe as sanely possible while still liveing life. I trust GOD and really if I am sapose to bite it nothing is gonna change that we are all given a certain number of heart beats and when its over its over.
I have been on the reciveing end of a biological terroist attack and was one very very sick puppy for a long time that happend by just going out to eat that one time that month at a restruant that had been targeted by these people all I did was eat some pizza and some jojos.

Title: The Dalles, Oregon - 1984 Rajneeshee Bioterror Attack
Location: http://www.gosleepgo.com/node/239
Description
: In the summer of 1984, members of a religious cult known as the Rajneeshees, followers of the Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, attempted to gain political control of Wasco County, Oregon, by attacking the city of The Dalles in what is considered to be the only known biological attack in the United States during the 20th century. By September of 1984 the town's water supply and at least ten other locations in The Dalles would fall victim to the attacks and more than 700 people would become ill, most from eating at restaurant salad bars contaminated with Salmonella typhimurium. Note: not specifically targeting a school.

400,000 people die each year from SMOKING. I don't smoke; I wash my hands; I eat my veggies; I wear a seatbelt; I AM NOT WORRYING!!!!

Amen!! We aren't going to die one minute sooner than God/Universe wants us to. However, a healthy dose of fear, real or imagined, does a serious number on the immune system. Nope, not for me. I'm going to live until I die and not 'practise' dying.

My best friend died 2 weeks ago. My heart is still aching. He was vegetarian, didn't touch junk food, ran 3 or 4 times a week, just past a thorough physical, didn't drink or smoke or worse, and now he's dead. A massive heart attack. He should have lived forever, not died at 48! So I am not going to worry about what might happen! If the swine flu is going to take me out, so be it. If not then something else will. I won't know when it's my time. Ramon certainly didn't and he lived his life to the fullest.

And you can be absolutely sure that when the Swine Flu vaccine comes out in the fall (and it surely will) I will NOT be standing in line for it. Or any other 'life saving' shot for that matter.
