Just got the "they shipped" email!!!!!!!! So excited!!!!!

update is with pics, and I have the same questions as the others. Ducklings are super cute, but they get older and bigger. I'll do some research on the friendliness of ducks, but I'm sure chickens are usually friendlier.

Ok, so what I gathered on pet ducks is that you must have and handle them since birth to even consider friendliness and mainly like to roam a bit more than chickens but still come and follow you, some sit in your lap, etc.

They came from my pet chicken, so probably Meyer, I have the following coming
2 silver cuckoo maran pullets
2 silver laced Wyandotte pullets
2 golden laced wyandotte pullets
1 black silkie cockerel
3 blue straight run silkies
And 5 mystery chicks!!

Hmm, maybe I will have to get a couple yet. Not this year of course, a couple years down the road.

Please post pictures when you get them. That is a nice variety, I can't wait until you figure out what your mystery chicks are. I would have loved to do something like that but with the fact that you don't know what you're getting it made me a tad afraid. Knowing my luck I would've got sent some bird that wasn't cold hardy or didn't lay nearly as good as I was looking for. Make sure you post pictures of all five mystery chicks I love guessing games!!!

Yes, please send pics when you get your babies! Very exciting. out babies are about 2 weeks old and I'll try to get pics later

I had some Muscovy ducks when I was a child. They turned into enormous drakes, and still sat in my lap even though they were nearly bigger than me. They were characters and followed me and my dog everywhere.
Oh nearly forgot...their poops are bigger and messier, and they like to play with their food in their water source/pond.

Did you raise them from ducklings? Because I read that's basically the only way to have them be friendly, unless someone else handled them and made them people friendly.

Well I was just thinking next year, if my second coop actually gets built, I am going to do cackle's surprise box there. I was thinking whatever I didn't want out of it I could probably find someone to take them. The price, if it doesn't go up, is just too good for what you can possibly get in that box.

Yes I had them from day olds. They are so worth it! Just funny and LOVABLE!!!!
