THEY HAVE SHIPPED!

Hope you don't mind me jumping in but try Epsom salt with your tomatoes. Someone told me about it a couple of years ago and I went from pathetic no producing plants to a tomato jungle this year. I tried it on my peppers and melons and they're taking off as well.
Oh, I will try this trick, too! My tomatoes are always lackluster.

Yeah I know it sucks, but we are a small town. That's awesome that yours is open until 4. Hopefully you will see your babies today. Remember to post pictures! Especially since I will probably have to wait until tomorrow for mine so I need something to tide me over until then. This waiting is so nerve wracking though! I almost had a full blown panic attack when I started thinking of what the USPS workers could potentially do to the box. I'm not saying that any of the scenarios going through my head are going to happen but what if one worker doesn't really care!? Okay I need to stop now before it starts all over again. DH just keeps saying they will get here when they get here. He doesn't seem to understand.

We made a compost bin this year. It is working well. It is in the backyard now against the woods and we're putting kitchen scraps and yard waste into it. We'll put chicken waste into it, too, once we have chicken waste!
That looks perfect! I'm going to show it to my DH. I was thinking about making one out of pallets, but I'm not sure where to get them. I really like yours too.

We used the plans from Sunset magazine - you can google "build the perfect compost bin sunset magazine" and it should come up.

Still waiting for the post office to call. Come on, chickie babies!

dizzywitch, it's not that our tomato plants didnt produce anything it was that they didn't have the stakes to vine up. So they just laid on the bed and didn't ripen and just couldnt grow properly. I will keep that in mind though for next year if we have any problem. Come on PO phone calls!

Actually - scratch that. The plans are at a website called gardening with lorraine. She has the full plans - our bin is stackable so you can remove the top rings to scoop compost over... it is called the best homemade garden compost bin ever.

The magnesium in the salt helps it to vine up and grow so you can stake it. My garden guru said put a tablespoon in the hole with the plant when it first goes in.

What type of wood did you use? I'm going to check those plans out!

We used cheap wood from Home Depot. We figured it was being used for rotting things, so no need to spend a lot.

From the website, this is the list of wood materials (free plans) - all of it is cedar.

  • 8 - 5/8” x 6” x 6’ cedar fence boards from Home Depot (caution: don’t buy the pine ones that are stained and treated to look like cedar, and make sure your boards are flat and square with no twist or warp)
  • 1 - 1-lb box of #10 x 1 ½” hex/washer self-drilling screws
  • 1 - 10’ cedar 2x4
  • 1 - quart finish (your choice)
