They just "fell" into my cart...

There where only two bantams left in my TSC. The assistant manager knows me. I was there for the little petbarn pet houses because the girls like them fot nesting boxes. I was looking dangerously at the chicks.

She tells me, "come on you know you want them."

I respond, "but you only have two bantams left."

She comes back with, "for you no minimum."

I laugh, I have to get groceries first I'll be right back. Came back picked them up and gave them to my broody that had chicks hatching. 😊

Oh! I know the ones you are talking about! I was just reading about those, too. Should be great chickens. Hopefully they will actually be that breed. 3 years ago, come May, we went into TSC for duck feed and heard the peeping! I couldn't stop these "Jersey Giant" chicks from falling into my cart! If you haven't noticed, I have a thing for big chickens. Well, as it turns out, Squirrel and Evie aren't JG's. They are, we believe, Australorps. Sad for me, but they are really good girls. We were extremely sad when Kiki and Red were murdered by a fox. They are really good layers. At least the eggs they lay are brown! That way we can tell them apart easier from the Welsh Harlequin duck eggs, which are white. I think we may be done with getting chicks... unless there are some Polish and maybe a couple Silkies at the chicken show this Saturday! I'm so excited. I've never been to one before. It's super local, too. They hold it every year in April and September. Not sure how we never knew this, we pass by the fairgrounds every weekend.
Wait. I've never been to a chicken show. There are chicks there too? I'm sunk.

Yes, there are chicken shows. The one I went to was very small, and all the good things for sale went way before we got there at 9am. That was disappointing, but we had fun looking at all the fancy chickens, even though 90% of them were bantam.

Our Farm Fair is coming up and we always visit the 4H poultry tent, not buying any more chickens, just hoping, begging and praying there are NO CALL DUCKS for sale. My wife will snatch them up like M&Ms:he
I traded my big drakes for 4 little Call Ducks but this is their first mating season and they think they can mate everything in the Duck Pen. It's funny to watch the big Rouen Hen when she has had enough of them chasing her and her turning around that grabbing them, not hurting them but letting them know enough is enough!! They did manage to mate one of my Hens however because when the eggs were hatched out under my Mallard hen that was sitting on them I got a Black Swedish duckling and it has to belong to a Call because I have no other Swedish ducklings. lol

The last time my mom went to Wilco they had a bunch of turkey polts outside for sale, and she started talking to them. My dad thought she was crazy cause she was just standing outside the store having a conversation with a bunch of baby turkeys. She said she almost bought them too, but of course, my dad brought up that we already have turkeys.
I love when he tells us that story
