Hey everyone!

I was a lurker for quite a while before I registered a couple of months ago. I've been updating my page with our progress, and am happy to announce our coop is functional (although not fully done), and the girls are enjoying their new space.

They have spent way too long in a large dog crate, and now they are very happy to be stretching their little legs and wings in the coop. My husband kind of over built the thing... but it is wonderful to know my chickens will be secure and warm this winter.

Visit my pages to see my chickens and my coop!

Do you let the chickens free range? That run seems kind of small. Other than that, awesome coop! Lucky chickens!

Yeah that is just a temporary thing I had for when they were younger and I stuck in front of the coop so I could see them use the pop door. Tomorrow we will be making it larger with some fencing the neighbors lent us. Eventually we will have chain link there.

Your neighbors are shooting at your chickens with a BB Gun????? Call the cop's....great coop however...I really like seeing what people build and the pic's are great. I wish you luck with the chic's and neighbors. Keep us informed....I can write a letter and so can others on this post, don't under estimate our chicken power!

Your coop looks great! One thing I did notice is that your roost/perch is square. I read somewhere that it needs to be round for their little footies. You could probably just round the top two edges. Anyone else know about roosts?

Quote:
The bottom roost is square and away from the drafty ventilation up top for winter roosting- it's 4" wide to allow them to cover their toasty footies at night.

If you're in a warmer climate a wide roost wouldn't be necessary, they can comfortably grip something that isn't round like a traditional bird perch, such as the narrow side of a 2x4, just fine.

Thanks for all the kind words, I am so glad you guys like to coop! Definitely wonderful to get complimented after all the long hours we put into it. I can't wait till the siding is on and it is sunflower yellow with white trim.
