Cleat - the horizontal piece of wood that they can hook their toes on trying to climb up. But if it is too steep or they are too far apart it is quite difficult. They have to sort of run and fly.

Well that didn't go as planned. I wanted to wait the closest to 8 to see if they would actually go back themselves at 7:15 my wife with my six month old and me with my two year old was outside and it started raining my wife is in my ear saying they won't go back on their own I wanted to wait but I just went in there and hunted down 10 chicks and put them in their coop which was wild Well my son is in there with me

At what age are they almost guaranteed to go back in the coop themselves?

My chicks are weird! They bring themselves in well before sunset but they refuse to eat the dried mealworms I got them!!

Mealworms are expensive so I've never bought them. BOSS is cheaper, scratch even cheaper than that. But remember these are treats and should not be a big part of their diet.

Day 3 age 4 weeks 3 days old open door at 7:30 5 hours later at 12:30 they made their way out.

Side note an hour before this one of them made their way out no one followed and then that one went back in the coop with no problems.

They have it figured out. Still might need to let them know when it is time for bed though. Just like teenagers.
