DLS-I think you are asking "why not feed potatoes"
Potatoes I guess are bad because of the skin?

Mine eat tomatoes, but I don't feed them potatoes. I have seen many post that say potatoes and their skins are toxic to chickens, so I don't feed them any, but they eat just about everything else. They love spaghetti.
