SEED CATALOGS, don't ya just love them?

so far I got two, some I get two of cuz I can't remember if I ordered it, I got two saturday from Comstock seeds is that cool or what? I like to order a few seeds from them all.

1. Anyone have a favorite?
2. Anyone have a design or plan for their garden?
3. Got pics? You lucky ducks in the south you can plant anytime.
4. What can't you plant that you wish you?
5. What's your favorite thing to plant?
6. In a sentence, what's the one thing you'd recommend folks do for a good harvest?

We order from Burpee seeds. I love to get the catalog, look at it just like I did the Pennys Wish Book when I was a kid at Christmas time

Then I order on line. We have planted a garden every year I have lived out here with DH. This will be our 4th. We are finally starting to get our soil figured out. DH biult a sprinkler system last year tha made things easier as well.

We mostly plant potatoes, onions and peas. Oh and of course Zucchini, squash and pumpkins.

I like to order my tomatoes from Burpee, then other stuff from the others so I continue to get them all. I blanch and freeze the tomatoes for chili. DW doesn't' like them for sauce. Of course there's a mix in there so I guess they won't do for sauce. Does anyone have a favor recipe that they plant for?

I like looking at the Logees catalog (not seeds though but starter plants lol). I like both the Burpee and Park Seed, and Totally Tomatoes catalogs for seeds. Online catalogs are good too. My favorite place to buy plants is zone9tropicals. They send huge plants! I like Pine Island Nursery site for tropical fruit trees and it has lots of good information. Top Tropicals is a good informational website on plants and great eye candy..

1. Anyone have a favorite? Southern Exposure seed catalog, I just love how informative this catalog is, not to mention they are all heirloom seeds

2. Anyone have a design or plan for their garden? I just used a free trial available at Mother Earth news to plan my garden. This software is pretty cool!
3. Got pics? You lucky ducks in the south you can plant anytime. I had pics until the computer died. My tomato plants were over 6 feet tall.
4. What can't you plant that you wish you? Well, I am in the south, so far, I have been able to plant everything that I wanted to grow, and I get good germination, but I cannot GROW cauliflower, argh!!
5. What's your favorite thing to plant? Hmm....I don't have a favorite, I love to experiment in the garden with new varieties and methods. This year it was a three sisters garden and we also grew peanuts and field peas for the first time. They both grow good in Tennessee!!
6. In a sentence, what's the one thing you'd recommend folks do for a good harvest? Compost

Did I mention , so far I've gotten "Comstock Seeds" and "Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds", Baker is definitely one of my favorites. Though Burpees has some nice tomatoes. I grew the Italian ice and that was a good producer.

Year before last I bought the generics, Big boy , Jet, etc. etc. and paid for it big time cuz they sent up a blight with it. I guess it's just like chickens you gotta grow your own if you want avoid problems. At least minimize them.

#4 watermelon, our season is just to short to grow this if you don't start it in a green house. I do plan to build one this year but still watermelon is hard.

Its so cold, I've got a $10 coupon for Godiva chocolates and I'm to cold to go and get it and Lord knows I love chocolate.

Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds and Seeds of Change - My two all time favorites.

They have SO much good variety of heirloom vegetables, fruits, crops, etc. LOVE their stuff, no complaints. We just got a new Baker Creek catalogue and went wild over it. . .

They now have the ever so rare Reisetomate Tomato. . .

Oh and who couldn't love Seeds of Change's Oaxacan Green Dent corn? Awesome, old variety of blue/green colored corn AND it is actually grow-able in our terribly short seasoned, mild climate.

Oh but their Melons section is SOOOO teasing. SO many gorgeous, delicious melons, and none can we plant, grow, and harvest successfully.

Darn our horrible climate and the expense of greenhouses. . .

Rancher..Try to plant the small Sugar Baby watermelons.
We have a short season here also and i was able to pull it off. But i did use already started seedling plants.
