They're Doing It AGAIN!! Bad Chickies! (PIP!)

This evening is day 20 for Jody's babies; it feels like it should be day 21, but its not. Ive got 2 little guys out and drying off. I will say that this is the very first hatch that Ive had where I have not opened the bator NOT ONCE. And dont think I didnt want to, when the second baby pipped all the way around and then....nothing. Just sat in that egg and didnt do a thing. I so badly wanted to open that bator and rip his little top off, but I didnt. I just went outside and played for a while, and when I came back in, he had popped on his own. But its been sooooo hard not to open that bator top.

And Ive got several more on their way. Jody, this is the best hatch Ive gotten out of your blue eggs. Guess we saved the best til last, huh!

Well, here I sit. Had to remove the three Blonde Hoodlums from the bator. They were completely fluffed out and were harrassing Velvet's baby and the 4th Buff Orp who's been trying to start zipping for hours. No other pips from the five remaining eggs, which puzzles me. No bator issues. I candled them at 17 days and they seemed perfectly fine. Can't for the life of me figure why they wouldn't hatch. This is my best bator, the one that holds values better than my Hova. I think I saw a few moving, but guess I'll know soon enough.

Buff Orp #4 is out; had a rough time getting free. That is a big one! No pips from the other five eggs, surprisingly. Maybe if I just go to bed and forget I have eggs in there, they'll hatch.

Since the humidity was going to 80%, figured it wouldn't hurt to candle these remaining five eggs to see if there was any hope. Four are goners. One has a moving peep, so we put it back in the bator. If it hatches, I've only gotten five chicks from this hatch of Buff Orps. Shipped eggs didn't work well for me this time around, not my usual hatch rate, except for the Welsummers Christie sent. Those did fantastic! I had alot of wonky aircells, which I dont usually get, and I'm sure that played a part in this. I did well on the Rhode Island Reds Julie sent, but none of the Buff Orps she sent as extras hatched. And I really wanted quite a few Buff Orpingtons, too, especially Julie's and Jody's! Darn.

Well, I sure hope this last Buff Orpington hatches. One pullet at least is already spoken for, so I won't have my bevy of beautiful sunny ladies this time around.
