They're here, they're here, they're here!

Thanks Bay Bay Peepers. It's another hobby of mine. I hope to get better ones when I have them out of the brooder.

New chicks are neat. You get to watch their personalities develop. I ordered 25 from McMurray's hatchery and all arrived alive and well. They are about a week and a half old now, and when I walked out to their run this morning, I could see several roosting on the poles I put in for them. That's a new behavior! My stepdaughter was commenting on how BIG they've gotten in one week! They really have. I have started to feed a few mealworms when I visit them, and they've come to expect it now. I'm the bringer of treats, and not a threat. That's great! I've got several Easter Eggers, Australorps, some New Hampshire Reds, and some White Leghorns. I've got some that are silver with black patches. Any idea what those might be? I'll try to get a picture posted sometime soon.

Yay Peeps, that is exciting. We are loving watching these girls (I hope they are all girls) explore and learn their new environment. They are so adorable.

BcAddy if you haven't already spotted the calendar thread you should consider entering some photos. I was thinking about it a few days ago, but haven't had much time to get on byc.

Thanks BBP! I did see that thread and was disappointed to only be able to submit two as I have a few more that I just love. but I put in one from above and this one:

I love that my sweaty hands gave her some "bed head" looking fluff. :)

So it looks like I had my guesses backwards for our black and white chicks. As they are growing Isabelle's (Dominique?) comb is looking more flat with one small spike high up near her head (much like my SLW) and Domino has a nice single ridge going along the top of her bill (BR?). Doesn't change what we want their names to be (though the name Domino was highly influenced by Dominique). Still keeping our fingers crossed that they are all girls.

Just took them outside for their first free range foray in the yard. They were kind of freaked the first time and just wanted to huddle underneath one of us while peeping away their displeasure. The second foray was more fruitful with a few ventures out from under me and some scratching and pecking at weeds and bugs. I think they may like it. Can't wait to get them out there more often.
