They're here! Welsh Harlequin, Golden 300 Hybrid, Black Swedish - Meet WO!

Well, it's been forever since I updated my thread, and thought I'd let y'all know how much DH and I are enjoying these ducks! I'm getting 3 eggs per day typically - although I have never seen one in a nest box, they are there waiting for me at 6 a.m. every day! I'm sure that it must be the Golden Hybrid 300 and the two Welsh Harlequin that are laying. I did get 3 green eggs, and then they stopped. So, that "could" be the Black Swedish and maybe she's just on break now, or it could have been one of they others laying oddly colored eggs for the first few, I guess.

In any event, I'm thrilled! I was just hoping for at least one to begin laying before the snow flies, I'm really excited that I have 3 laying!

I also was gifted a black Runner who was hatched "in the spring" - she's not yet laying....to my knowledge! She appears to be very close to the same age as the others, so maybe soon?

I need to get some updated pictures. DH is going to build me an outdoor watering station for winter use, so I'll surely get some pictures when that is in process so I can share about that!

Yay, Wynette's ducks!!!

Tee-hee! We are REALLY enjoying them - much moreso than we thought we would! DH loves how they constantly chatter, and all the different noises they make. He especially thinks the noise they make when they have run out of food is hilarious. Hmmm.....I think he enjoys feeding them and THAT noise almost as much, though!

And he's discovered Cheerios. Sigh. Have to thank admin. Terrielacy for that! She talks of her ducks & geese loving Cheerios, so I finally got a box for them. DH LOVES throwing them into their pool & watching them eat them!

It's so interesting, too, how they lay their eggs in the pitch black every day! I'm just in awe of getting eggs so early EVERY day! It puts a bit of a hop into my step in the mornings. I know they may not lay through winter, so we're enjoying the eggs while we can! I can totally see the possibility of getting a few more in the spring.

Can we get a video of the hop please?

My youngest Golden 300s laid all through the last few winters. After they are a couple of years old they seem to slow down or stop in the winter but all my young ones continue to lay even when it gets colder and the hours of light shorten. Could be that yours will do the same.

Smart....butt.

Tivona, that would be most awesome! I hope my girl does, as well. I do work full time, and my biggest issue in winter is eggs freezing. BUT - given that the ducks lay so doggone early, that would never be an issue with them!

Be careful what you wish for. My best layer is named Trouble. She started earning her name the day I got her as a duckling when she scratched me drawing blood and still continues to earn it escaping, getting it to things, beating up the others from time to time and what not. She even laid during her summer molt last year. She has finally stopped laying with the current molt. I am glad to see her body getting a break from laying. Sorry I can't give tips on the freezing. I live in a mild climate with not to much in freezing nights in the winter. Sounds like you might be able to get your eggs before they have a chance to freeze though.

Edited for punctuation and spelling...
